Australia Day is important to each and every Australian. Australia Day to me means hanging out with a group of friends, listening to Triple J’s Hottest 100 and enjoying a few (quite a few) icy cold beverages. It’s about enjoying the great outdoors. It’s about being joyful; elated even. It’s about being free to do whatever it is that makes us feel truly happy.
Australia Day is a time to reflect about how fortunate we are to live in such a magnificent country. Australia Day is a day that we can spend quality time with family and friends; whether that be at the beach, poolside or countryside. I’m sure wherever you are there won’t be a BBQ hotplate in site that’s free of bursting sausages, steaks and grilled onions that’s for sure!
I wanted to make a traditional Australian meal for Australia Day but unfortunately guys I’ve had the busiest week and I simply haven’t had the time. When I was thinking about what to make though it got me thinking… What is our most Australian dish? Is it the meat pie? The Lamington? The Pavlova? The BBQ in general perhaps? I’m not sure. My friend thought that even Thai could perhaps be Australian! There’s so many Thai restaurants about and Thai is indeed the most cooked cuisine in my house.
So I’ll put it out there folks. What in your opinion is our traditional Australian dish?

I agree with Claire, definitely snags on the Barbie. But I always go straight for dessert, pavola has definitely been claimed Australian! Enjoy Hottest 100 days!

Tough question but I’d have to say sausages cooked in the barbie and wrapped in bread are pretty quintessentially Australian.
