Miss Foodie’s Dinner – Philip Johnson’s Apple, Pecan and Pinenut Torte
I’ve been wanting to make the Philip Johnson Apple, Pecan and Pinenut Torte for 7 years now and as it was my turn for Wednesday Girls Dinner, I finally baked it. Layered with lemon soaked apples and ground roasted pecans and pinenuts, this cake is an absolute delight. A torte can only be truly appreciated once you slice it, for it’s when the layers present themselves that you truly understand the labour of love that goes in.

As you may know, I’m catering my first wedding in November so I’m experimenting with a few cold canapes. I’ll definitely be using this Smoked Salmon Butter Crostini as it is so deliciously tasting and is easy to make and transport. A party of flavours with Kate’s menu tonight! To start we enjoyed an entrée of Peppered Figs, a reciped adapted from George Calombaris’ Hellenic Kitchen Cookbook. A visual feast to behold, the peppered figs with its honey, spices and balsamic glaze went perfectly with the grilled haloumi.
